Dr. Bhaba Sarker has a wide range of interests covering design and control of manufacturing systems. He has worked with the World Bank, Godrej Company, Jay Engineering Company, US Army Corps of Engineers, and NASA. He taught earlier at Bangladesh Institute of Management, Centralia College (Washington),  The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University for several years.

Dr. Bhaba Sarker won the IIE, DSI and POMS Best Dissertation awards for 1990 and 1991. He won the Most Valuable Professor Award from Texas A&M University and Professor-of-the-Year award from LSU IMSE Department for excellent teaching. His supervised Master's theses won national awards in 1995 and 2001 from the Institute of Industrial Engineers.  He was awarded the most prestigious national award, David F. Baker Distinguished Research Award by Institute of Industrial Engineers in May 2006.  The IIE Board of Trustees selects one individual each year to receive the Baker Award which "...recognizes significant contributions to the advancement and progress of the industrial engineering profession through outstanding research. It is given for a career of accomplishments that have broadly benefited practitioners, organizations or other researchers, rather than for a single activity or application…” in industrial engineering research.

Dr. Sarker's research has been funded by LEQSF, USACE, IBM, NSF, ONR, ARO and NASA. His funded research projects relates to production and manufacturing systems, resource management, estuarial systems, assembly systems, army mobility problem, and logistics management and reliability analysis in Shuttle operations.

Dr. Sarker has published more than 96 articles in refereed journals such as Computers & Industrial Engineering, Computers & Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, IIE Transactions, International Journal of Production Research, International Journal Production Economics, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of the Operational Research Society, Production Planning and Control, and Annals of OR, in addition to many book reviews, more than 55 papers in conference proceedings and 65 conference presentations. He is currently serving on editorial boards of journals:

§         IIE Transactions

§         International Journal of Production Economics

§         International Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematical Sciences

§         Production Planning and Control

§         Computers and Operations Research
